New Milwaukee Bucks head coach Jason Kidd has his own tales to tell from being an NBA coach in New York. However, Kidd was more focused on another player-turned-coach on Monday - the New York Knicks' Derek Fisher.

In particular, Kidd addressed the dynamic between Fisher and Phil Jackson and how that will translate from a team management perspective.

“You look at Derek, you look at [Knicks] management, they understand how to do that quite well,’’ Kidd said at a Bucks shootaround Monday morning at MSG, per Marc Berman of the New York Post. “He has a good mentor to do that who has won championships, the type of person to lean on. It’s not like this is going to be Phil’s team. It’s Fish’s team. He definitely made that clear. But he has someone to draw from, how to handle different situations.”

Fisher revealed recently that he sought out Kidd for advice on the struggles of transitioning from player to coach. Kidd had this advice to hand out.

“To send the media Christmas gifts and birthday gifts,’’ Kidd joked. “That might help.’

“[I told him] patience,’’ Kidd continued. “ You’ll be fine. You understand what you’re trying to do. Patience is the first thing that you got to deal with. You couldn’t ask for a better person. He understands the system and understands it takes a little time to get going … For every coach has to go through different situations, how to handle winning, how to handle losing.”

Kidd, who runs a similar offense to that of Phil Jackson's triangle, even had some words of wisdom about superstar Carmelo Anthony's role in such a share-first system.

“Look at Kobe [Bryant] before the triangle, all he wanted to do was score,’’ Kidd said. “They all find their niche of where they’re going to get their shots."

"I think he’ll be fine.’’
