It will be a while before second-year wide receiver Devin Smith returns to the field.
The Jets moved him to the reserve/physically unable to perform list Sunday, meaning the earliest he can return to the active roster is Week 7 in October. Smith, the team’s second-round pick in 2015 out of Ohio State, is recovering from December surgery to repair a torn ACL in his right knee. The move was part of the transactions the Jets made to reduce the roster from 90 to 78. Teams have until 4 p.m. Tuesday to get down to 75 players.
The Jets cut 11 players.
