Geno Smith going all out to remain Jets starter

BOONTON, N.J. -- Geno Smith said he has received no confirmation that he will be the Jets' starting quarterback in Week 1. Which is why he feels as if he has to go out and take the role for himself.

In Smith's world, there are a few well-calculated steps involved in doing that: Keeping star receiver Brandon Marshall on your side isn't a bad start, nor is holding pre-training camp workouts (other Jets quarterbacks are invited but are not expected).

"I think whether you're a starter, a backup, or a guy trying to make the team, you've got to try and go and take it,'' Smith said Wednesday at his football camp at Boonton High.
