3 Reasons Why Jets Fans Should Be Optimistic About 2015

It’s been a topsy-turvy offseason for the New York Jets so far, but that doesn’t mean there’s nothing to be optimistic about when the 2015 NFL regular season gets going just over five months from now. Here are three reasons why Jets fans should be looking forward to the season:

3) New regime

Head coach Rex Ryan and GM Jeff Idzik are both gone and have been replaced by Todd Bowles and Mike Maccagnan, respectively. Ryan and Idzik were both blamed heavily for the Jets' struggles during the past two years, and inserting fresh blood gives everyone a clean slate and a fresh start.

2) Improved secondary

The New York Jets had the sixth best defense in the league last year, but their secondary was consistently gashed and was the weakest part of the unit. Todd Bowles made it a point to improve the secondary, and did so in a huge way by signing Darrelle Revis, Antonio Cromartie, and Buster Skrine. Now the Jets suddenly have one of the best secondaries in the league, meaning their good defense will be even better in 2015.

1) Improved offensive line

New York's offense was a complete mess last season, and while poor quarterback play was a big reason behind that, the offensive line may have been even more at fault. Both Geno Smith and Mike Vick had no time to throw the ball and they were inconsistent in opening holes for the running game, so the Jets brought in guard James Carpenter from Seattle and the versatile James Brewer from the Giants. They're both expected to start and contribute right away, and will undoubtedly improve the unit.
