Why numbers don’t tell story of ugly Isles power play

TAMPA, Fla. — It’s one of the four tenets Islanders coach Jack Capuano always preaches for postseason success. Among luck, health, goaltending and special teams, the latter is the only one he can somewhat control.

Though the Islanders did get their second goal on the man-advantage in as many games, the performance of the power play was desultory in their 4-1 loss to the Lightning in Game 2 of their second-round series on Saturday afternoon at Amalie Arena.

“I think our guys were really prepared for how they kill and how aggressive they come,” Capuano said. “But with that said, you have to be dialed in.
