Brian Boyle won’t be suspended, to Islanders coach’s chagrin

A night’s sleep didn’t change Jack Capuano’s mind.

The Islanders coach, who expected Lightning forward Brian Boyle to be suspended for his hit on Thomas Hickey at the end of Game 3’s overtime loss, remained convinced Wednesday morning that Boyle’s hit was illegal, but the league already had moved on.

The play, which directly led to the former Ranger’s game-winning goal, will not be subject to a supplemental discipline hearing. Capuano said he didn’t believe Boyle’s hit was malicious, but still believed it warranted action from the league.

“I’m gonna stand by what I said, and I thought the hit was high and it led to a really good scoring chance for them,” Capuano said on a conference call.
