Outplayed Isles blow 2-goal lead as Capitals tie series

WASHINGTON — The Islanders seemingly had a great chance to take a commanding lead back to Long Island with them, with a two-goal lead late in the second period against the Capitals.

But looks can be deceiving.

Outplayed for almost the entire game, the Isles’ inability to match Washington’s intensity eventually caught up with them, as they allowed three straight goals — two in the third period — in dropping Game 2, 4-3, at Verizon Center on Friday night to even the series.

Jason Chimera had the game-winner at 7:37 of the third period, scoring on his own rebound to decide the final score.
