Islanders have one glaring position of need in free agency

It’s an odd situation, and even Garth Snow was willing to admit it.

“We’re obviously in a different situation than we have been in past offseasons,” the Islanders general manager told The Post on Tuesday night, on the eve of free agency. “We’ll obviously take a look at what’s out there for [backup] goalies, but I don’t anticipate us being very active.”

Starting at noon Wednesday, with the Islanders preparing for their inaugural season at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center, the market will open, and Snow’s main concern with his remaining $13 million or so of cap space will be finding an understudy for starting netminder Jaroslav Halak.
