It’s not happening.
According to ESPN’s Jordan Raanan, the New York Giants will not use the franchise tag on defensive tackle Johnathan Hankins, who is set to hit free agency this March.
This comes as no surprise when you consider the franchise tag number is north of $13 million for defensive tackles.
Last season, Hankins wasn’t his usual self, as he posted a Pro Football Focus grade of 47.1 – by far the lowest of his career.
Even with his poor play, the Giants were still third in the league against the run and second in points allowed.
