Giants roster countdown, No. 6: Will Olivier Vernon's sack total rise in 2017?

Vernon, along with Jason Pierre-Paul, makes up the Giants' sturdy defensive end duo. Both players are strong against the run and rush the passer well, although fans (and the Giants) would like to see more sacks in 2017.

Vernon is in the second year of his historic five-year, $85 million deal he signed in March of 2016. He is scheduled to make $11.75 million in base salary this season.

Vernon battled through a busted hand early in the season and finished with 8.5 sacks and 64 tackles. Many would have liked to see a higher sack total, but Vernon was rated Pro Football Focus's most productive 4-3 right end due to his pressures and hurries, as well as sacks.
