The 3 Biggest Draft Busts In NY Giants History

The New York Giants have had some wonderful luck in the NFL Draft over the years (see: Taylor, Lawrence), but they’ve also had a few draft busts who’ve broken our hearts with heaping spoonfuls of potential unfulfilled. Here’s our list of The 3 Biggest Draft Busts In NY Giants History.

3. TE Derek Brown (#14 in 1992)

Tabbed as the heir apparent to Mark Bavaro at the tight end position, Brown floundered mightily and wasn't able to crack the starting lineup after his rookie season. Catching just 11 passes in his time with the Giants, Derek Brown was a first-round pick who played like a fringe practice squad body.

2. RB Ron Dayne (#11 in 2000)

Ron Dayne's collegiate resume at Wisconsin was a sight to behold, so you can't really fault the Giants for expending the #11 pick on him back at the turn of the millennium. However, the Heisman Trophy winner followed up a promising rookie campaign by gaining pound after pound for three seasons before picking up his bags and moving along.

1. DE Cedric Jones (#5 in 1996)

The Giants passed such names as Eddie George and Terry Glenn to pick Jones in hopes that he'd shape up as the team's next dominant pass rusher in a lineage full of them. Jones did the exact opposite, amassing just 15 sacks in five seasons and cementing his place as a top-five oopsie to end all oopsies.
