NY Giants NFL Draft Rumors: Everything You Need To Know Heading Into Draft Week

The 2015 NFL Draft is just a few days away, and there’s plenty of reason to be excited about the festivities in Chicago if you’re a NY Giants fan. Here’s our breakdown of everything Giants fans need to know heading into draft week.

Alabama Safety Landon Collins A Top First-Round Target?

The New York Giants will have plenty of options available to them with the #9 pick in the 2015 NFL Draft, and the team’s needs in the secondary could lead them to either stretching for a safety in the first round or addressing said need in the second round.

Here’s ESPN.com’s assessment of why safety is the Giants’ biggest need heading into the 2015 NFL Draft:

With Antrel Rolle leaving for Chicago and Quintin Demps and Stevie Brown unsigned, the Giants have only two safeties under contract: recent fifth-round draft picks Cooper Taylor (2013) and Nat Berhe(2014), neither of whom has ever started an NFL game. Demps and Brown could still return, but there’s a reason they remain unemployed.

If the Giants look safety at #9, keep an eye on Alabama's Landon Collins -- the consensus #1 safety on the board heading into draft day.

If Not Collins, Then Who?

If the Giants look to another position other than safety at #9, it could very well be defensive tackle and Washington standout Danny Shelton.

Here's New York Post columnist Steve Serby with his thoughts on why the massive Shelton is a fit for the Giants:

Jay Bromley, the third-round pick in 2014, barely saw the field, so there is an opening for a 343-pound space eater alongside Johnathan Hankins. And Cullen Jenkins is 34. The big fella can shield MLB Jon Beason, if not the sun. A critical question coach Tom Coughlin and defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo will need to answer: If Pete Carroll saw this guy on the Giants’ goal-line defense, would he let Russell Wilson throw from the 1-yard line to win an NFC Championship game?

Shelton had 92 total tackles (54 solo) for UW in 2014, along with also using his massive frame to slice and dice opposing offensive lines for nine sacks.
