2014 marked Coughlin's eleventh season as the head coach of the Giants, and his 19th overall season as an NFL head coach. The 68-year-old football veteran spent 1995-2002 with the Jacksonville Jaguars before taking over the Giants in 2004.

Coughlin's tenure has been an extraordinary mix of highs (two Super Bowl championships, five playoff apperances) and baffling lows, with the team's failure to make the playoffs each of the last three seasons (including a 6-10 record this year) effectively ending his time with the storied franchise.
