The New Orleans Saints have at least one high-profile candidate in mind for their assistant-coaching vacancies.
The Saints will interview former San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Tomsula for their defensive line job during next week’s Senior Bowl practices in Mobile, Alabama, a source confirmed to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter. New Orleans’ interest in Tomsula was first reported by the Sporting News’ Alex Marvez.
Tomsula’s brief stint as an NFL head coach was not successful -- he was fired after one 5-11 season in 2015. However, there is little doubt he is highly regarded as a defensive line coach, which is how he got that 49ers gig in the first place.
