Saints center Max Unger finally eligible to be taken off PUP list, start practice

The Saints have seen Max Unger participate in individual stretching while the team practiced in recent days. Him working off to the sides was promising, but it wasn’t the final sign that he was ready to go. On Thursday, that final sign arrived.

Unger, the Saints Pro Bowl center, underwent surgery on his injured foot in May. What originally appeared as an injury that would sideline him through October, New Orleans could desperately use his return to practice. The club has already lost left tackle Terron Armstead to a torn labrum. Rookie Ryan Ramczyk, who is the lead candidate to replace Armstead, has been out until the last few days with his own injury after having hip surgery earlier in the year.
