Stevens gem leads Lobos past Nevada in MW opener

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. --- The University of New Mexico baseball team may be down two key players, but the 2017 Mountain West regular-season champion Lobos didn't let it slow them down as a complete-game gem from Tyler Stevens and strong clutch hitting helped UNM past Nevada 7-2 in the opening round of the Mountain West Tournament on Thursday at Santa Ana Star Field.

The Lobos are down MW Tony Gwynn Co-Player of the Year Jack Zoellner due to injury and preseason All-American Luis Gonzalez, but UNM recovered from a 2-0 deficit after the first inning by scoring seven unanswered runs and secured it with a dominant effort by Stevens over the final eight innings.
