LAS VEGAS, Nev. --- The University of New Mexico baseball team showed Saturday night that it doesn't have to bludgeon teams with its offense to win games as the Lobos a day after racking up the third-best run total in program history used timely hitting and good pitching to secure their eighth-straight win in Mountain West play with a 4-2 victory over UNLV at Wilson Stadium.

The Lobos (14-9 overall, 8-0 Mountain West), who won 29-8 Friday, got a strong start from Johnathon Tripp and a scoreless inning each from Justin Slaten and Christian Tripp to hold UNLV to two runs while scoring a single run off UNLV (10-15, 5-6) in the second, fifth, sixth and seventh innings to come away with the win.
