Ex-Devil Lou Lamoriello was best GM in NY-NJ area, Yankees' Brian Cashman says

NEW YORK — Lou Lamoriello has been the "best (general manager) in the tristate area in all sports" and the Toronto Maple Leafs are "very fortunate" to have hired him, his friend, Brian Cashman, told NJ Advance Media Thursday afternoon.

Cashman, the New York Yankees' GM, said Lamoriello's discipline and toughness will benefit Toronto.

Earlier Thursday, the New Jersey Devils announced that Lamoriello resigned as president after 28 years with the team. Shortly after, the Maple Leafs announced that the 72-year-old would take over as their general manager.
