GPS Omens, the leaders of the Massachusetts Bay State Soccer League defeated Newtown Pride FC of the Connecticut Soccer League 3-1 last Sunday at Newtown High School in a 2017 US Open Cup qualifier.
GPS used a flurry of goals before and after halftime to take a commanding 3-0 lead and a stout team effort on defense held Newtown to just a late consolation goal in the victory. My full match report with unofficial lineups and box score can be found over at TheCup.us.
The win puts GPS Omens into a possible third round of amateur qualifying for the Open Cup though dates and matchups for that round (if necessary) have yet to be announced as the second round of qualifying is still on going.
