James O'Shaughnessy shows offensive glimpse amid battle for TE spot

Chalk up Saturday night as a positive step for James O'Shaughnessy is his quest to make the Patriots' roster.

A week after rookie Jacob Hollister broke out for a 100-yard game in the team's preseason opener, O'Shaughnessy showed glimpses of his offensive potential in the Patriots' loss to the Texans. The tight end caught five balls for 41 yards in addition to his play on special teams.

O'Shaughnessy is the favorite to secure the No. 3 tight end spot behind Rob Gronkowski and Dwayne Allen after the Pats took a flier on him by acquiring him for a fifth-round draft pick from the Kansas City Chiefs , but after recently being limited in practice, his performance Saturday in extended action was welcomed.
