Patriots Free Agency News And Rumors Roundup: Eric Weddle Wants To Play For New England?

NFL Free Agency starts on March 9th, and the next few days will feature several New England Patriots rumors. While free agency doesn't officially start until Wednesday, Monday and Tuesday are "legal tampering" days. That means teams can discuss contracts with any player, although a deal can't be signed until Wednesday. With that in mind, here are a few of the more interesting rumors and news tidbits on the Patriots

Weddle Wants To Play For New England?
Former Chargers S Eric Weddle has been vocal that he wants to play for a Super Bowl contender, and that might result in him playing for the Patriots next season.

"It would be funny if I ended up there," Weddle told Peter King. "We’ve played them so many times. The thing I like about them is they don’t have an ego. It’s insane to think about how good they’ve been. I’ve been to just one AFC championship game. They’ve been there every year. You respect it, you envy it, you admire it."

Weddle joining New England would mirror the path that Rodney Harrison took. Weddle would likely need to take a lesser contract to join New England.

Pats Want First For Jimmy Garoppolo?
The Patriots are grooming Garoppolo to take over for Tom Brady, but teams are interested in trading for Garoppolo. The Patriots want at least a first rounder for Garoppolo, reports Yahoo! Sports. That makes sense, as the Patriots are high on Garoppolo and won't just give him away. At that price, expect Garoppolo to remain in New England.

Patriots Tender Exclusive Rights Free Agents
New England has a few exclusive rights free agents, and the team extended offers to several of them today. OT Cameron Fleming, WR Josh Boyce, CB Justin Coleman and ST Brandon King all received tenders.
