Jerod Mayo Injury News: Star New England Patriots LB could be out for the season

New England Patriots LB Jerod Mayo could be out for the rest of the season after undergoing surgery on a torn pectoral muscle.

Mayo injured his pectoral in Sunday's win over the New Orleans Saints, and underwent surgery on Tuesday, according to Yahoo! Sports' Les Carpenter.

Mayo, a two-time Pro Bowler, had 55 tackles on the year at the time of leaving Sunday's game. He has 1.5 sacks so far this season.

A first-round draft pick out of Tennessee in 2008, Mayo has developed into New England's defensive leader. If Mayo's surgery does rule him out for the year, he'll join star NT Vince Wilfork on the injured reserve.
