2014 NFL Draft: New England Patriots Select Jimmy Garoppolo

With the 62nd overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots have selected Jimmy Garoppolo out of Eastern Illinois.

As one of only two quarterbacks in FCS history to throw for more than 5,000 yards in a season, Eastern Illinois’ Jimmy Garoppolo has had his name tossed around as a sleeper pick throughout the pre-draft process. In 2013, Garoppolo went 375-of-568 for 5,050 yards, 53 touchdowns and nine interceptions in 14 starts.

Garoppolo’s throwing motion is smooth as butter, and his wrist snap helps him get zip on almost every throw -- pressure or not. His decision-making capability is top-notch, and he has repeatedly shown the ability to both learn from and forget mistakes -- a crucial element to have for a potential franchise QB.
