Entering the Mountain West Championship, Wolf Pack golf coach Jacob Wilner said his team was capable of "really poor rounds" and "very special rounds."

The Wolf Pack ran into one of those poor rounds over the opening 18 at the OMNI Tucson National Catalina Course on Friday, shooting a combined 8 over to put Nevada in a tie for eighth in the 11-team field after the first day of competition. The Wolf Pack is 17 strokes behind leaders San Diego State and Boise State.

Nevada, which clocked five top-three finishes this season, got off to a solid start and was even par through four holes but stumbled thereafter.
