Pack splits home-opening twin bill with Virginia Tech

The Wolf Pack baseball team split its home-opening doubleheader with Virginia Tech on Friday, nearly pulling off a miracle rally in the first game before winning game two.

Playing its first games this season at Peccole Park, Nevada dropped the opener, 8-7, before a 7-4 victory in game two to cap the twin bill.

Nevada dropped into a deep hole in the first game after starter Trevor Charpie (0-2) allowed six runs (five earned) on 10 hits over six innings. He struck out five.

The Wolf Pack was down 8-2 entering the bottom of the eighth inning when it picked up one run on a Keaton Smith homer.
