Whether he was an assistant at Oklahoma, Texas or Arizona State, whenever Jay Norvell went recruiting in Southern California one of the first people he would look up was Matt Kirk.
Norvell recruited a couple of Kirk’s junior-college players over the years – namely offensive lineman Pearce Slater and tight end Jean Sifrin – but he and Kirk would go to high school games together in talent-rich Los Angeles. Norvell was looking for Power 5 players and Kirk was searching for JC options.
“I’d used to recruit with him on Friday nights all the time,” Norvell said.
