Texas basketball coach Shaka Smart receives contract extension, pay raise

Texas head basketball coach Shaka Smart received a one-year contract extension and pay raise, a deal that will keep with the team through the 2022-23 season, reports The Austin-American Standard.

Smart will receive a $3 million base salary for the 2016-17 season, with another $100,000 raise each season.

“I’m very appreciative of the support from Chancellor Bil ;McRaven, President Greg Fenves and Men’s Athletics Director Mike Perrin,” Smart said in a statement. “I’m really happy at Texas and am excited about being here for a long time.”

The Longhorns finished 20–13 in his first season in Austin, finishing fourth in the Big 12 and losing in the first round of the NCAA Tournament last season to Northern Iowa on a buzzer-beating half-court shot.
