Nguyen joins father as Brigade Boxing champion

Related Topics: Unanimous decision

Bee Nguyen grew up hearing about the Brigade Boxing Championship. Nguyen's father was a brigade champ and told his son it will always remain one of the greatest honors of his life.

Phong Nguyen sat in the first row of seats on the floor at Alumni Hall to watch his son attempt to accomplish the same feat during the 76th annual Brigade Boxing Championship. The elder Nguyen, who earned his brigade crown in 1983, looked like he was in the ring as he bobbed and weaved with every punch.

Bee Nguyen went toe-to-toe with Toshi Oue in the 139-pound final and had to dig deep to pull out a split decision.
