The day after the Navy women's basketball team opened the Navy Classic with a blowout, the Mids had to scramble to prevent their winless opponents from securing an upset.
On Sunday afternoon, the Mids eked out a 67-66 victory over Liberty at Alumni Hall. With 1:06 left in the game, Hannah Fenske made the lay-up that ultimately decided it.
Navy (6-3) led by as many as 16 early in the third quarter, but the Lady Flames clawed back, outscoring Navy 25-15 in the period. Liberty (0-6) took just its second lead of the game in the fourth quarter and held a five-point lead with five minutes to play.
