The Mountain West has emerged as a legitimate challenger to the Power 5 conferences on the football field, and they have a number of teams that are expected to compete with the best this season.
Boise State is obviously the highest ranked MWC team, being ranked 26th in the SB Nation poll and 5th by USA Today.
Utah State is expected to finish second in the conference and are ranked 64th and 55th in both polls, respectively.
Colorado State the second-highest ranked team in the conference in SB Nation's poll at No. 59 out of 128 FBS teams, but are ranked much lower (No. 73) in the USA Today preseason poll.
SBNation currently has San Diego State football projected as the No. 76 program out of 128 teams in the FBS, while USA Today is much more optimistic with a No. 48 ranking. That makes them the fourth-highest ranked MWC team by SB Nation, but second in USA Today.
