Proposed Mississippi bill attempts to legislate NCAA investigations

The Mississippi state legislature soon could be debating a bill that doesn’t look to fix roads or schools but rather NCAA investigations.

Mississippi Rep. Trey Lamar (R-Senatobia) – a former walk-on running back at Ole Miss in the early 2000s – has proposed House Bill 1040. Its title: The National Collegiate Athletic Association Fairness in F.A.C.T Investigation Act of 2017.

The bill would set guidelines “to be used by the NCAA when carrying out investigation of association rules and regulations by public member institutions in the state of Mississippi.” One of the guidelines is that “the NCAA Enforcement Staff and its Committee on Infractions shall have nine months to complete the investigation and issue its ruling.
