Mississippi State and Miami (Ohio) will face off in the 2016 St. Petersburg Bowl at Tropicana Field in St. Petersburg, Fla., on December 26.
Tropicana Field is the home park of baseball’s Tampa Bay Rays.
Despite a losing record, the Bulldogs (5-7) received a bowl bid because of a lack of eligible teams and their high Academic Progress Rate (APR). The Bulldogs had a dominant 55-20 victory at Ole Miss in the Egg Bowl in their regular-season finale.
The RedHawks (6-6), from the Mid-American Conference, began the season 0-6 before reeling off six consecutive wins to close out the regular season – the first team in college football history to do that.
