Big day from Nick Fitzgerald lifts Mississippi State over UMass

Five takeaways from Mississippi State’s 47-35 win over Massachusetts at Gillette Stadium, home of the NFL’s New England Patriots.

The Bulldogs’ secondary was Jekyll and Hyde

The Bulldogs’ secondary had been abysmal through the first three games in giving up big plays. Against UMass, the Bulldogs made strides – but also gave up big plays. Jamoral Graham had a 38-yard interception return for a touchdown, but the Bulldogs also gave up four Andrew Ford touchdown passes. With the likes of BYU, Texas A&M and Ole Miss to come, the Bulldogs still have a long way to go in the secondary.
