Top scorer Malik Newman stays in-state at Mississippi State

It’s not clear exactly what new head coach Ben Howland’s plans are for the Mississippi State Bulldogs next season, but an educated guess is that 6′-3″ guard Malik Newman of Callaway (MS), and incoming freshman, will likely lead the squad in points scored and shot attempts.

A consensus top 10 recruit nationally in the 2015 class, Newman picked Mississippi State on Friday over a litany of other contenders, including Ole Miss, Kentucky, Kansas, LSU and others. Many consider Newman to be among the premier scorers in the class.

As an in-state prospect, Newman is also a legacy recruit as his father also played for the Bulldogs.
