After the Ole Miss defense was run off the field by Leonard Fournette in a 38-21 loss Saturday, and thus continued its trend of poor play, The Clarion-Ledger’s Hugh Kellenberger asked head coach Hugh Freeze, “How much confidence do you have in Dave (Wommack, defensive coordinator) to fix this defense?” Here was Freeze’s response:
“It’s been a battle,” Freeze said. “Dave Wommack has been tremendous for me and I owe him a lot. We address staff issues every week, every single week and we'll continue to do that. It’s a combination of things. One guy just does not all of a sudden become bad at what he does when he’s been good at it for a long time.
