Vikings’ Zimmer To Miss Practice Due To Father’s Health

MANKATO, Minn. (AP) — Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Zimmer’s father is ailing.

Zimmer told reporters Monday that he will miss practice Tuesday because his father is “not doing well.” Offensive coordinator Norv Turner will supervise the team in his absence. The Vikings have a scheduled day off from practice Wednesday.

Zimmer’s father, Bill, was his high school coach in Lockport Township, Illinois, outside of Chicago. Zimmer has often credited his dad for his 21-year career as a coach in the NFL.

Bill Zimmer, now in his mid-80s, was inducted into the halls of fame for the Illinois high school coaches associations in both football and wrestling.
