Vikings: At least one coach wants to see Trae Waynes in starting lineup

Vikings defensive coordinator George Edwards doesn't get to pick the starting lineup, but he said Thursday that rookie cornerback Trae Waynes is being looked at closely to start the regular-season opener.

"That's what we're aiming for; that's what we're all working for," Edwards said.

Waynes hasn't started any of the Vikings' three preseason games, playing behind veteran Terence Newman each game on the left side. Coach Mike Zimmer decides who will start the Sept. 14 opener at San Francisco, and he wasn't available for comment Thursday.

Regardless, Edwards said there is plenty of work ahead before a starter is chosen.
