Thousands of protestors are scheduled to march from Northrop Plaza on the campus of the University of Minnesota to TCF Bank Stadium on Sunday in a planned protest of the Washington Redskins' controversial nickname.

The Minnesota Vikings were made well aware of the rally in advance, and were even asked by Minnesota House representative to bar the Washington Redskins' moniker from all promotional materials for the game.

The Vikings, in declining McCollum's request, cited the NFL's policy for treating all contests the same from a promotional standpoint. The Vikings did, however, state that they are "sensitive to the issue."

Regardless, McCollum is optimistic about what Sunday's rally will mean for the people of Minnesota and the Native American rights movement in general.

“I think this demonstration is going to show the best of Minnesota,” U.S. Rep. Betty McCollum, said to the Star-Tribune.

McCollum has been one of the most outspoken opponents to Washington's continued use of the "Redskins" moniker. She will also be one of the keynote speakers at Sunday's rally.
