Twins send top prospect Alex Meyer back to Triple-A

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Rookie reliever Alex Meyer was optioned back to Triple-A Rochester after Friday's game to make room on the roster for Ervin Santana.

The plan is for Meyer to continue working in relief with the Red Wings.

"I'll go down and do what I did before," Meyer said, "and just try and continue to get better."

Meyer made just two appearances after being called up for the first time a week ago in Milwaukee. Pitching in long relief both times, the highly rated prospect posted a 16.88 earned-run average in just 2 2/3 total innings.
