The Minnesota Timberwolves are running out of time to secure a contract extension with guard Ricky Rubio prior to Friday's midnight EST deadline.

However, TNT's David Aldridge is reporting that there is still a chance the sides can come to an accord with just hours to go:

If no deal is reached, Rubio would hit restricted free agency in July. The team would have the options to reopen talks then, pursue a sign-and-trade, offer him a one-year tender, or let him walk if they decline to match another team's offer sheet.

Per an ESPN report, the Timberwolves are reportedly willing to offer Rubio four years at $52 million. Rubio's camp is said to be requesting four years at $58 million - a difference of $1.5 million per year on average.

Stay tuned.
