Gophers football: Jerry Kill lauds Mitch Leidner's 'outstanding offseason'

CHICAGO -- Gophers coach Jerry Kill looks to quarterback Mitch Leidner's participation in the Manning Passing Academy this summer as part of his "outstanding offseason."

"So I look for him to have a great year," Kill said. "And, certainly, it starts there."

Leidner enters his junior season striving for more consistency. Leidner completed 51 percent of his passes (122 of 237), with 1,798 yards, 11 touchdowns and eight interceptions.

The Gophers will have to find receivers and tight ends to assist Leidner. Maxx Williams was the leading receiver with 36 receptions for 569 yards and eight touchdowns last season, but he declared early and was drafted into the NFL.
