Gophers basketball: Ahmad Gilbert commits to Minnesota

Ahmad Gilbert, a forward from Philadelphia Constitution High School, committed to the University of Minnesota basketball program Thursday, according to multiple sources.

Gilbert, the Class A player of the year in the Philadelphia area, had originally committed to George Mason, but the Patriots fired coach Paul Hewitt in March, prompting Gilbert to change his commitment.

The 6-foot-6, 180-pound wing player was rated a three-star recruit by Rivals.com. He averaged 17.6 points, 11 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 2.1 blocks last season while leading Constitution to a 24-8 record and its third state championship.

Gilbert is the sixth member of the 2015 recruiting class that includes Clinton Christian (Md.
