MLB Trade Deadline: Brewers acquire Diamondbacks outfielder Gerardo Parra

With the division rival St. Louis Cardinals stocking up on pitching before the 4PM EST non-waiver trade deadline, the Milwaukee Brewers are going to need everything they can get out of their offense to hold off the Cards in the NL Central.

Keeping that in mind, the Milwaukee Brewers have just acquired veteran outfielder Gerardo Parra from the Arizona Diamondbacks:

Parra provides limited pop (just six home runs in 406 at-bats) and is hitting .259/.305/.362 so far this season. However, Parra can play all three outfield positions, giving Milwaukee manager Ron Roenicke a ton of lineup flexibility going forward into the stretch run. Here's Brewers general manager Doug Melvin with his thoughts on the trade:

The Diamondbacks have reportedly been vigorously shopping Parra as his production has declined while is salary increased to $4.85 million in 2014. He hits free agency this winter.

In exchange, Arizona picks up two mid-level prospects to help continue their rebuilding process into 2015 and beyond.
