Brewers send Gomez to Mets in trade

SAN FRANCISCO -- Just before an airplane full of Milwaukee Brewers lifted off from San Francisco International Airport on Wednesday, center fielder Carlos Gomez learned he would need a connecting flight.

Gomez was informed just before the plane lifted off that he'd been traded to the Mets. Multiple news reports, first from the New York Post, indicated the Brewers would get right-hander Zack Wheeler and infielder Wilmer Flores back in the trade, which was not immediately confirmed by either club and reportedly was pending medical approvals.

Milwaukee GM Doug Melvin has previously said he believes the Brewers can contend again after a brief "reset," and Wednesday's trade reinforced that notion.
