Brewers Trade Rumors: Could Brewers target Ben Zobrist before deadline?

In this look into Brewers trade rumors, the Milwaukee Brewers could very well be buyers before the 2014 MLB trade deadline. Tampa Bay Rays second baseman Ben Zobrist could be one of the names that they target.

Brewers general manager Doug Melvin already has a history of trading for players in Zobrist's vein, after dealing for Jerry Hairston Jr. back in 2011:

Ben Zobrist is a player that has many similarities to Hairston. Zobrist has played every position on the field throughout his career with the Rays, except for pitcher and catcher.

He is in the midst of his ninth season in the big leagues and has received votes for MVP three times. Even though the switch hitting Zobrist’s batting average is currently below his career average, his approach could bolster the bottom of the order. He could even cameo in the leadoff position occasionally.

Adding that kind of flexibility could be too much to pass up for Melvin - especially in light of the current dog-eat-dog state of the NL Central pennant race.
