Notre Dame Football Opts Out of Contract With Michigan

In a relatively shocking announcement this morning, Notre Dame athletic director Jack Swarbrick informed Dave Brandon that the Notre Dame will not participate in football games with the University of Michigan starting in 2015.

Both parties are required to give the other program a three year notice before they opt out of their contract, which Notre Dame has done so properly. Michigan and Notre Dame will still play each-other in 2013 and 2014, but the Irish and getting out of their end of the deal as quickly as posible.

Notre Dame plans to stay committed to one of the two California schools (USC and Stanford) and will continue their rivalry with Navy.

These announcements should come as no surprise as Notre Dame just recently joined (partially at least) the ACC.
