Nik Stauskas named NABC First Team All-American

Michigan's Nik Stauskas was named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-America first team on Wednesday morning.

The sophomore joins Arizona's Nick Johnson, Creighton's Doug McDermott, Connecticut's Shabazz Napier and Duke's Jabari Parker on the first team. The honor is Stauskas' third All-America selection after Sporting News named him to its second team and USA Today put him on its third team.

Stauskas helped the Wolverines reach a 27-8 overall record and their first outright Big Ten title in 28 years with a 15-3 conference record, winning the league by three games. The Wolverines earned their first No. 1 seed at the Big Ten Tournament and reached the championship game for the first time in 16 years.

Michigan was given the No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament's Midwest region and advanced to its second straight Sweet Sixteen with wins over No. 15 Wofford (57-40) and No. 7 Texas (79-65).

Stauskas, who was named the Big Ten's Player of the Year and was the only unanimous All-Big Ten first team selection, leads the Maize and Blue with 17.4 points and 3.3 assists while pulling down 3.1 rebounds per game.

Stauskas scored in double figures in 30 of his 34 games, with 13 20-plus point games, including a career-best 26 twice. He became just the eighth Michigan sophomore to reach 1,000 career points, and needs just eight more to become the 21st Wolverine to score 600-plus points in a season.
