Michigan football rumors: A change at QB for the Wolverines?

Queue the insanity.

It's Monday, and things always change throughout the week with any major football program,  but, I have always promised and will continue to deliver the latest musings on the Michigan football team from team insiders, current and former players and a few well connected classmates from my schooling days. Last night, I had my usual phone calls and email exchanges with my contacts and had two separate sources drop a big nugget of info on me regarding the Michigan football team.

The maddening offensive performance displayed by Denard Robinson the last 4 weeks doesn't seem to be a sign of him regressing, but one of a player who is battered and beaten to the point where its is affecting everything that the Michigan offense is hoping to do this season.

As one insider put it "It has been very hush-hush, but Denard was dealing with 3 injuries for the last month and now, after Illinois, its 4 injuries. He's got an ankle, a deep thigh bruise, tweaked his elbow a while back, and now he can't hold on to the damn ball because his hand is bruised. Unless he heals up big time, they are going to save him for OSU, that game means so much more to the team than Nebraska does."

A second source confirmed via email "They had Denard trying to grip and throw the ball after the game on Saturday and he wouldn't have been able to throw it ten yards accurately if he had to play. Everyone gets the sense that Devin will get the start this coming week in order to save Denard for this OSU ass kicking in 2 weeks.

The source continues "They were so worried about his ankle and elbow that we planned on going old-school and run the entire game with Fitz and Mike and throw quick slants and screen only against Illinois."

Now, can things change in the next 5 days. The miracles of modern medicine can heal one of Robinson's injuries enough to make him serviceable enough to deliver a win against NU. But, this team is planning to practice this week with the thought that Devin Gardner is the guy that will lead the offense against Nebraska.

I asked my uber-spy to text me practice reports after Tuesday's scheduled padded practice and will pass those notes along to you all if/when I receive them.
