Michigan State's Athletic Director Commits NCAA Violation on Twitter?

Michigan State Athletic Director Mark Hollis may be the latest high profile person in sports to get into hot water while using Twitter. Just this month, Michigan WR Roy Roundtree committed a (ridiculous) secondary violation by tweeting out a congrats to a high school athlete  from his hometown that committed to Michigan. Now, it seems the MSU AD Hollis has done the same by contacting Michigan basketball star PG Trey Burke.

Burke, mulling the decision to go pro after his freshman year, sent out the following tweet yesterday regarding his decision:

Hollis, an active tweeter, responded to the tweet with:

Shortly after, he RT the Burke message with a hashtag #respect:

Michigan AD Dave Brandon, who is friendly with Hollis, sent the following message out as a response last night:

What does the NCAA have to say on the matter? Nothing yet, but below is the official NCAA rule on contacting athletes from other schools:

NCAA Bylaw 13.1.1.3

An athletics staff member or other representative of the institution’s athletics interests shall not make contact with the student-athlete of another NCAA or NAIA four-year collegiate institution, directly or indirectly, without first obtaining the written permission of the first institution’s athletics director (or an athletics administrator designated by the athletics director) to do so, regardless of who makes the initial contact.

I smell an SMU-style death penalty for the entire MS athletic dept. Shut down East Lansing!
