Michigan Football Recruiting: Wednesday Rumors Roundup

It's day two of the Jim Harbaugh era of Michigan football, and already the impact of the returning Harbaugh on the program is being felt when it comes to the Wolverines' recruiting efforts this offseason. Who's on the way in? Who's still waiting on other pieces to fall in place? We'll answer those questions and more in our Michigan Football Recruiting: Wednesday Rumors Roundup.

Smith waits on Durkin

Elite 2015 linebacker Roquan Smith (Montezuma, GA/Macon County) has been rumored to be willing to take an official visit to Ann Arbor if the Wolverines bring in Florida Gators defensive coordinator DJ Durkin to work alongside Harbaugh, and Smith confirmed said rumors to GatorBait.net's Luke Stampini on Wednesday.

"If Durkin goes to Michigan, I'm going to take one of my visits there because I know him and know what kind of guy he is," Smith said, via 247Sports. "He's just a great guy. He takes care of his players on and off the field."

Durkin coached with Harbaugh at Stanford from 2007-09, and has been linked by several sources to the currently vacated defensive coordinator role in Ann Arbor.

FSU recruit looking to visit Michigan

Tampa (Fla.) Wharton 4-star wide receiver Auden Tate, a Florida State commitment, is currently planning to officially visit both FSU and Florida in late January, per a conversation with Noles247.com on Wednesday.

However, per Christopher Nees of Noles247, "he is 'trying to see about that now' with regards to taking an unofficial visit to Michigan before National Signing Day. Tate officially visited Michigan on Nov. 21st and has maintained interest in the Wolverines throughout his recruitment."

The #30 ranked wideout by 247Sports' composite rankings remains firm in his commitment to FSU, but it appears the Harbaugh signing as at least piqued his interest.

SEC commit in play for the Michigan Wolverines?

It appears so, according to Steven Lorenz of Wolverine247:

I can confirm that current Alabama commitment and former Michigan linebacker target Joshua McMillon has told a couple current Michigan commitments that he'd take an official visit to Ann Arbor once new head coach Jim Harbaugh reaches out to him, something he's hoping happens in the very near future.

Michigan finished as a runner-up to Alabama when the four-star linebacker out of Memphis (TN) Whitehaven committed to the Tide in August. However, the allure of playing under Jim Harbaugh appears to have swayed McMillon just a bit.
